Kuching Heritage Race 2019

DARUL HANA IS TRENDING in Kuching. Why? What is the link between Darul Hana and the Kuching we know – or think we know?

The spectacular S-shaped 336-metre hanging bridge crosses the Sarawak River, connecting the north and south sides of the city is the Darul Hana Bridge. When opened on November 11, 2017, the local press reported that the name is of historical significance and in Arabic, Darul Hana means a place of tranquillity and peace.

How? What is the connection between Darul Hana and Kuching?

Join The Kuching Heritage Race 2019, Darul Hana Revisited, on Saturday, February 16, 2019, to find the answer to the questions.

The Kuching Heritage Race was launched in 2015 and has gone from strength to strength. Phillip Yong, the organising chairperson, is confident that this race will take all teams into the known, but not known areas of Kuching. It will open our eyes to not only the astounding history of Kuching and Sarawak, but to the present hidden gems (to use a cliché).

History is living, and we live in history and to create this understanding, awareness and appreciation are goals of the race; but not the only ones. By joining, you will be raising funds for charities who extend helping hands to those less fortunate. This year, the selected charities support children in need, adults with Parkinson disease, traditional artisans and our four-footed friends. Corporate sponsors also contribute to the fund-raising activities. Together we truly do make a difference.

The Kuching Heritage Race is not a race from point A to point B. Each team will receive a passport with clues for all the stations. The next step is to find all the stations and then complete all the tasks. The winner is the team which finds all the stations and completes all the tasks in the shortest period of time. There is, of course, a twist. At some stations, teams have the chance to answer quizzes and for each correct answer a couple of minutes is taken off the running time.

At the end of the day, the race is fun, exciting and amazing for teams and the volunteers who organise and man the stations. I suppose that is really why we join. We have a great time while becoming history buffs and helping out those in need.
